Course Overview:
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an Ofqual-regulated introductory teaching qualification, widely recognised across further education, workplace training, and adult education sectors in the UK.
It covers the core principles of teaching and learning: how to plan sessions, how to deliver them effectively, and how to meet the diverse needs of adult learners. Completing it demonstrates that you understand teaching as a professional discipline — not just as an extension of subject expertise.
This qualification is the standard prerequisite for roles in:
It is also a required or strongly preferred entry point for progression to assessor qualifications (Level 3 CAVA) and internal quality assurance roles (Level 4 IQA).
Entry requirements

Have solid knowledge or experience in at least one subject or specialist area

Be confident in written and spoken English at approximately Level 2 (GCSE equivalent)

Have access to a teaching or training environment for the practical micro-teach element
There is no formal interview process. If you are ready to begin, you can enrol and start immediately.
All applicants are required to complete a short enrolment application before a place is confirmed. Trainigo screens applicants to ensure suitability and reserves the right to decline enrolment where an individual is subject to a Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) prohibition on teaching, holds relevant unspent criminal convictions, or cannot demonstrate genuine knowledge or experience in their stated subject area. If you are uncertain whether your circumstances affect eligibility, contact us before applying.
Who this course is for
The AET is built for professionals entering teaching — not career academics. If you already have the knowledge and now need the qualification, this is where you start. The course is particularly suitable for the following:
WHAT GIVESTHIS QUALIFICATION ITS IMPORTANCE?
Most professionals who move into teaching underestimate the gap between knowing a subject and teaching it well.
Subject expertise does not automatically translate into effective instruction. Without understanding how adults learn, how to structure a session, or how to adapt delivery for different learners, even highly experienced professionals can struggle to get results in a classroom or training environment.
The AET addresses exactly that gap. It gives you a structured, evidence-based framework for teaching — so that your expertise lands effectively, your sessions have direction, and your learners actually make progress.
This is not a box-ticking qualification. The skills you build here — lesson planning, inclusive delivery, constructive feedback, learner engagement — are the foundations of effective teaching at every level.
What You Will Learn
In this course, you will learn:
Roles, Responsibilities, and Relationships in Education and Training
The professional context of teaching: your responsibilities as an educator, the boundaries of your role, safeguarding requirements, and how to maintain appropriate professional relationships with learners. This unit grounds you in the ethical and regulatory framework you are working within — essential knowledge most new teachers are never formally taught.
Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches
How people learn — and why that matters for how you teach. You will study learning theories, identify how to adapt delivery for different learner needs, and develop inclusive approaches that work across varied groups. This unit directly challenges the assumption that one delivery style fits everyone.
Planning and Delivering a Teaching and Learning Session
The practical core of the qualification. You will plan a structured teaching session, deliver it, and develop the skills to manage timing, maintain learner engagement, and handle real delivery challenges. This unit culminates in your micro-teach — a short, assessed teaching session that gives you direct experience in front of learners.
Assessment and Feedback
How to gauge whether learning has actually happened — and what to do when it has not. You will learn to use questioning, observation, and formative assessment techniques, and practise giving feedback that improves learner performance rather than simply evaluating it.
COURSE DELIVERY
ASSESSMENT
There are no written exams.
Assessment is coursework and evidence-based:
All work is assessed by a qualified assessor and moderated by an Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) before certification.
STUDY DURATION
Typical completion: 4–8 weeks
The pace depends on your study time per week and how quickly you can arrange your micro-teach. Learners who can dedicate 4–6 hours per week typically complete within the lower end of that range.
There are no hard deadlines after enrolment, but consistent momentum produces better results — and a faster route to employment or taking on a new teaching role in your organisation.
SUPPORT AT TRAINIGO
Teaching is a skilled profession, and developing competence in it takes more than reading course materials.
At Trainigo, support is embedded into the qualification, not bolted on as an afterthought.

CAREER OUTCOMES
The Level 3 AET qualifies you to teach in a professional capacity across a range of settings. Common progression routes include:
Qualification progression:
The AET is formally recognised as the prerequisite for:
→ Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (CAVA) — for professionals moving into assessor roles → Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (IQA) — for those moving into quality and standards roles
These three qualifications form the core professional ladder in UK vocational education and training.
WHY TRAINIGO
