Enrol and Join Your Cohort

September and March cohort entry points. Live Zoom sessions are held twice a month in the evening — scheduled around dental nurses working full-time in clinical practice. Places are limited; enrol early to secure your cohort.

Study Online and Attend Live Sessions

Work through structured online modules at your own pace, supplemented by twice-monthly live teaching sessions where you can ask questions, discuss cases, and consolidate complex topics including behaviour change theory and DBOH application.

Build Your Clinical Portfolio

Plan, deliver, and evaluate oral health education sessions in your practice or approved community setting. Document session plans, learning objectives, reflective evaluations, and witness testimony for your NEBDN Portfolio of Evidence.

Sit the NEBDN Written Examination

A theory paper covering the full OHE syllabus — oral health promotion, behaviour change models, fluoride science, dietary advice, plaque control, erosion, tobacco, oral cancer, and professional responsibilities. Mock examinations provided.

Receive Your NEBDN Certificate

Once both the Portfolio and Written Examination are passed to NEBDN standard, you are awarded the NEBDN Certificate in Oral Health Education — enabling you to practise OHE as a formal GDC Extended Duty.

Assessment Method

1. NEBDN Written Examination: A formal theory paper covering the full NEBDN OHE syllabus held at NEBDN-approved centres on scheduled dates.

2. NEBDN Portfolio of Evidence: Documented evidence of planned, delivered, and evaluated oral health education sessions across a range of patient groups and settings. Must meet NEBDN standards before you are eligible to sit the examination.
