Course Overview:
The UK’s Recognised Route to GDC Registration — Study While You Work
No degree. No career break. No guesswork about what comes next.
The NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing is the qualification that takes you from where you are now — curious, motivated, ready — to a fully GDC-registered dental nurse with the legal standing and clinical skills to build a long-term career in dentistry.
This is not a passive learning experience. You train alongside live patients in a GDC-registered dental practice, building the kind of hands-on clinical confidence that classrooms alone cannot deliver. Trainigo provides the structure, the expert support, and the resources. You provide the commitment.

Not yet employed in a dental practice? That’s fine — the Trainigo team is here to help. We support you in finding a trainee dental nurse position, advising on how to approach practices and what to include in your application. Many practices actively recruit trainees already enrolled on a recognised programme.
Before you start in practice, arrange your enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and begin your Hepatitis B vaccination course — a series of doses over several months, so start early. Most practices require both before a trainee joins the clinical team.
Assessment Methods
The qualification is assessed via three distinct methods — all three must be completed and passed for the NEBDN National Diploma to be awarded.
1. Portfolio of Evidence (PoE)
Throughout your training, you will compile a workplace-based digital portfolio using NEBDN’s designated platform, PebblePad. It is internally assessed by your training provider and must be submitted at least 4 weeks before your summative assessments.
What it includes:
2. Knowledge Test
An externally set and marked online examination testing your theoretical knowledge across the full NEBDN syllabus.

Format |
65 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) |
|
Duration |
90 minutes |
|
Set and marked by |
NEBDN (externally) |
3. Professional Discussion
Replacing traditional practical examinations such as the OSCE, this is a scenario-based assessment that evaluates your clinical decision-making, competence, and professional behaviour in realistic practice contexts.
|
Format |
Online interview and discussion with a qualified NEBDN examiner |
|
Duration |
60 minutes total (including 10 minutes reading time) |
|
Focus |
Decision-making, clinical judgement, and professional behaviour in practice scenarios |

Earn While You Learn
Train in Practice While
You Study
Dental nursing is a work-based profession. That means your learning is not just theoretical. You develop confidence in patient care, chairside support, communication, teamwork, and day-to-day practice systems while studying towards your qualification. Official GDC guidance for employing trainees also reflects the importance of achieving the qualification and registering within the expected training period.

Earn While You Learn
Support That Goes Beyond Course Access
When learners fall behind, it is rarely because they are not capable. More often, they are trying to balance work, study, and everyday life without enough guidance. Trainigo is built to change that. We believe support should be practical, responsive, and genuinely useful. That means clear communication, approachable tutors, structured learning, and help at the points where students typically struggle most.
